Today, we invite you to write and submit a short letter to Governor Walker and Lt. Governor Mallott to help protect Southeast Alaska’s transboundary rivers from the threats posed by large-scale mining development in Northwest British Columbia. Please urge them to support a referral to the International Joint Commission. This referral is the best option to achieve guaranteed protection for our transboundary rivers.
It may sound complicated, but here are a few tips:
-> SHORT & SWEET - 1, 2, 3 DONE
Dear Governor Walker,
1 - I am writing today about [transboundary rivers: the Taku, Stikine, & Unuk and the communities that rely on them. ]
2- I care about this personally because…
3- What should be done about this issue? (We recommend advocating for a reference by the International Joint Commission.)
DONE Thank the Governor for his time, and sign your name!
-> GET PERSONAL
Speak from the heart, tell Governor Walker why you care.
Example: As an Alaskan who takes pride in our incredible natural resources, I feel that we have an important opportunity right now to protect the one of the greatest wild salmon regions on the planet.
-> BE A REAL HUMAN
Add your name and contact information. No one likes robots and this increases the likelihood of getting a letter in the hands of the Governor.
-> STAMP IT, SEND IT!

-> "I'M AWESOME!"
We’d love to keep track of the number of Alaskans taking the time to contact the Governor on this issue. Once you send your letter, send us a quick note about it so we can thank you!
Together we have elevated this issue to the international level and communicated a strong, united message to British Columbia that Southeast Alaskans are serious about protecting our assets downstream.
THANK YOU! Pat yourself on the back, and go have an awesome day.
