"Mining laws need to be fixed" Bev Sellars / Prince George Citizen

3/4/2019

Bev Sellars, former councillor and chief of the Xat'sull (Soda Creek) First Nation in Williams Lake and the former chair of First Nations Women Advocating for Responsible Mining, wrote a powerful piece about the truth of mining in B.C.
“After so many broken promises and ignored pleas we can hope that positive statements coming from the current B.C. government - and even from some quarters of the mining sector - mean that this time it will be different. But words minus action equals zero…B.C. needs to ensure that no mining activities are approved without the free, prior, and informed consent of affected Indigenous communities. If the industry and province want to build trust and start reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, they should agree to a reform of these mineral tenure laws to bring them into the 21st century.”

All of them have been talking about tours lately. Me, I guess the only way for me to be elsewhere but here is to soul travel. I didn't expect it will appear to be a pleasant surprise. At first I thought it's impossible. I just woke up one day and it's already happening. I don't just travel, I also get to be with someone I like and it feels real. It doesn't feel like I am in a dream anymore. It feels so real. If the girl puts her arms on my shoulders, I can really feel it. It's one of those experiences which I cannot really just tell anyone because they might think I am crazy.

I think the laws are the least of our problem. People don't really follow a lot of them anyway. If you are going to observe what is happening in other countries, no one even knew the law by heart. If you want something done without worrying about the law, all you have to do is do your activities off shore. You will not be persecuted if you are very good with operating in stealth, you will have more future. I am not making any sense but that's the truth.
